GOLDEN ARROWS 0

2 ORLANDO PIRATES

Competition: PSL
Date: Tues, 19 January 2010
Venue: Chatsworth Stadium
Kick-off: 19:30pm

Lamontville Golden Arrows went down for a second time this season to Orlando Pirates, beaten 2-0 in the Absa Premiership on Wednesday after losing earlier in the campaign to the Buccaneers in the Telkom Knockout.

A first half strike from Isaac Chansa and an own goal from Siyabonga Sangweni soon after half-time proved Arrows’ undoing at the Chatsworth Stadium, although the home team did produce an aggressive and attacking performance.

Chansa snapped up a loose ball on the edge of the penalty area to fire home an unstoppable shot after 28 minutes, just when Arrows were forcing their dominance on the game.

There had been earlier chances for Siyabonga Nkosi and Collins Mbesuma, before Arrows suddenly found themselves trailing.

Coach Zoran Filipovic took off debutant Jabulani Nene and brought on Nkanyiso Mlotshwa at half-time to increase Arrows’ attacking tempo but within four minutes Arrows were 2-0 down.

A curling corner from Tlou Segolela caught both attackers and defenders unawares and thundered into the net off the chest of the unfortunate Sangweni.

The high humidity took its toll on the players in the second half but Arrows still had the better of the possession and came close to finding the net only to be denying by the goalkeeping of Senzo Meyiwa.

He made a spectacular stop in injury time at the end of the game from an indirect free kick inside the small box which Siyabonga Nkosi tried to squeeze home but without success.
