BIDVEST WITS 2
2 GOLDEN ARROWS
Competition: PSL
Date: Saturday, 03 December 2011
Venue: Bidvest Wits Stadium
Kick-off: 15:30pm
Lamontville Golden Arrows have come away with a good away point from their 2-2 draw against BidVest Wits at the BidVest Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
But it might have been different for Abafana Bes’thende, who came from 2-0 down and could well have gone on to win the game had they had a bit more composure in front of goal.
Wits fielded a much-changed line-up just one week before they take on Orlando Pirates in the Telkom Knockout Final on December 10, but raced into a 2-0 lead.
Sifiso Vilakazi headed them in front just three minutes in as he latched onto a Katlego Pule cross to give the home side the perfect start.
And it was 2-0 on 30 minutes when Joseph Musonda was adjudged to have fouled Vilakazi in what looked a soft penalty award, with the striker stepping up to convert again himself.
But Arrows brought themselves back into the game eight minutes later when Thamsanqa Gabuza continued his good run of form with a goal with a good individual effort.
If the first half had largely been controlled by Wits, the second was a completely different story, with Arrows dominating.
They were level just past the hour mark as Zambian striker Collins Mbesuma latched on to a Philani Shange pass to fire the ball past Energy Murambadoro in the home goal.
Gabuza and Shange had good opportunities to grab a winner as Arrows pushed for all three points towards the end of the game, but in the end they had to settle for just one.
The side will now prepare for the home meeting with Ajax Cape Town on December 17 in what will be another special occasion for coach Muhsin Ertugral against his former team.
