Lamontville Golden Arrows suffered their first defeat under new coach Muhsin Ertugral on Saturday, beaten 3-1 away at Free State Stars in Bethlehem on Saturday.
After holding the home side to a goalless score to just before half-time, Arrows were stung by a three goals from the hosts in a 10 minute spell.
Stars captain and goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene opened the score from the penalty spot on the stroke of half-time with a penalty after Musa Bilankulu was adjudged to have handled the ball.
After the interval, the coach sought to add to Arrows’ attack to try and get back into the game, bringing on Thamsanqa Gabuza for midfielder Jabulani Nene.
But Stars were caught by a shot from Mzikayise Mashaba that made it 2-0 just a minute into the second stanza.
In the 56th minute Katlego Mashego made it 3-0 to the hosts with a right footed effort.
Arrows tried gamely to get back into the game and after Collins Mbesuma was fouled, Siyabonga Nkosi banged home a goal for Arrows in the 68th minute.
Arrows remain in 13th place with seven points from none games. Saturday’s loss follows an away win over league leaders SuperSport United in the Telkom Knockout on Tuesday night.
