Abafana Bes’thende have beaten a frustrated Chippa United 1-0 at Princess Magogo Stadium this afternoon.

The first half was a tough affair with both sides making good use of their positioning and posession to get into the last 3rd to create scoring opportunities, but finishing was just not good enough for both sides and they went into the break with no score on the board. The physical impact of the game was prominent in both teams, and Lamola had to have a a head injury attended to in the break.

Lamontville golden Arrows made a forced early sub after coming from the change room, with Sibiya coming on for an injured Nonyane. He made an impact in the game and had Chippa guessing the next move. Arrows were unlucky not to take the lead after a foul in the box which we were awarded a penalty. Ntanga stepped up to the mark, but Akpeyi read it well and made the save.

The break through came in the 65th minute when a counter attack from S.Dube saw him break up the right hand side of the field and play an amazing cross to Ntanga in the box. The ball beat the keeper and gave us the opening goal.

Chippa United never gave in though and in the dying minutes of the game had a number of plays that had the side defending hard to deny the visitors the equaliser.

We travel next weekend and have our Last 16 game against Orlando Pirates on Sunday afternoon in the Telkom Knockout Cup.
