AMAZULU FC 1
2 GOLDEN ARROWS
Date: Friday, 16 January 2010
Venue: Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium
Lamontville Golden Arrows got back to their winning ways and were crowned kings of Durban after victory in the derby away against AmaZulu at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium in Clermont.
Collins Mbesuma scored both goals, his first since signing for Arrows last month as the club halted a run of five matches without a win to stay seventh in the Premier Soccer League standings. The 2-1 win was the first since mid-November’s victory over Mpumalanga Black Aces.
Mbesuma, making only his second start for Abafana Bes’thende, tucked away a simple goal as early as the 10th minute after being played through by Siyabonga Nkosi. Besuma slotted the ball calmly through the legs of AmaZulu goalkeeper Thembalethu Moses for the perfect start on a blazing hot day in Clermont.
Mbesuma was a torn in the side of the inexperienced AmaZulu defence throughout and grabbed his second just after the break. He took advantage of a slip by AmaZulu’s makeshift defender Thamsanqa Sangweni and turned neatly and with some style before striking the ball wide of Moses and into the net.
The 54th minute goal gave Arrows some breathing space although AmaZulu fought back strongly.
After just six minutes they pulled the deficit back to one goal again when Namibian international Tangeni Shipahu squeezed the ball in the inside of Helton da Rocha’s left-hand spot.
Shipahu then headed against the crossbar but as the referee added on five additional minutes it was Arrows who finished strongly to take all three points.
