GOLDEN ARROWS 1
2 KAIZER CHIEFS
Date: Friday, 02 February 2011
Venue:Moses Mabhida Stadium
Lamontville Golden Arrows continued their lack of success against Kaizer Chiefs but put up a resilient fight on Wednesday night as the went down 2-1 at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.
Arrows saw Collins Mbesuma pull a goal back with just over 20 minutes left in the game to set up a thrilling finale but Arrows chances were hurt shortly thereafter when defender Siyanda Zwane was sent off in the 71st minute.
Zwane had been given a yellow card in the first half for an innocuous-looking trip and a second tackle in the second half led to his early departure.
It left the side a man down as they launched a bid to fight back after going 2-0 down after conceding two goals early in the second half.
Arrows weathered an early storm from their visitors to come back strongly before half-time and might well have had two goals when Mbesuma and Zwane both tested Itumeleng Khune.
But the defence was caught by a cross from former Arrows player Abia Nale in the 54th minute, which Sthembiso Ngcobo converted at the back post.
Chiefs then scored a second goal with a strong shot from just inside the penalty area.
But Arrows were determined to fight back and the interchanges of passes between Siyabonga Nkosi and Mbesuma, two former Chiefs players, set up several chances.
Mbesuma hit the upright with a shot on the turn and soon after got a goal, using his strength to shrug off Chiefs’ defender Valery Nahayo.
But Arrows ran out of time at the end and have now not beaten AmaKhosi in the last eight matches.
