Lamontville Golden Arrows have played to a thrilling 3-3 draw with Platinum Stars in their Absa Premiership encounter at the Chatsworth Stadium on Wednesday evening.

The teams had played to a 0-0 draw in the reverse fixture in Rustenburg earlier in the season, but they made up for it this time round with a six-goal feast for the fans.

Siyabonga Nkosi, Musa Bilankulu and Songwe Chalwe scored for Golden Arrows, while Stars’ goals came from Bradley Grobler (two) and Henrico Botes.

The game got off the a frenetic start with the home side ahead inside the first eight minutes. Philani Shange forced a fine save from distance from Stars keeper Tapuwa Kapini, but Nkosi was on hand to tap home the rebound.

Stars were level just over 10 minutes later when a long punt up-field from Kapini found its way through to Grobler in the box and he beat Thulasizwe Khuzwayo. A more direct goal you will rarely see.

But Arrows were ahead again midway through the first half as Bilankulu scored his second goal of the season as he converted a Njabule Manqana corner.

Grobler hit the Arrows woodwork with an excellent volley as the visitors pushed forward in search of an equaliser, but it was the home side who had the final chances of the half as Kapini denied Manqana and then Shange in quick succession.

Dikwena made a fast start to the second period and after Khuzwayo had done well to save from Solomon Mathe, the visitors found their equaliser.

Grobler scored his second of the game with a scuffed shot as the static home defence failed to deal with the ball into the box.

And 10 minutes later, Stars had the lead for the first time in the match as veteran Namibian striker Henrico Botes scored with a typical poacher’s effort after excellent interplay with Grobler.

But the see-saw battle took another turn when Arrows were awarded a penalty on 78 minutes after a handball from Stanley Kgatla, and substitute Chalwe stepped up to convert the spot-kick.

There were chances at either end to the finish, but neither side could find a winning goal and both had to settle for a point in their battle for a top eight place this season.
