Lamontville Golden Arrows have suffered a desperately unlucky 1-0 defeat at the hands of Durban rivals AmaZulu in their Absa Premiership clash at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Wednesday night.
Muhsin Ertugral will be wondering just how his side failed to win after they dominated the possession and the chances, but were denied by the woodwork on three occasions.
They then conceded a poor goal from a set-piece to hand the points to the home side on a night Golden Arrows will want to forget.
Abafana Bes’thende were defending a five-match unbeaten run in the Absa Premiership going into this fixture and with the historical advantage in this fixture too.
They were without defender Msekeli Mvalo and Siyabonga Nkosi through suspension, forcing coach Ertugral to shuffle his pack.
The best chance of a quiet first half fell to Arrows, who were desperately not to take the lead when Dillon Sheppard’s effort crashes into the crossbar and away to safety.
And Ertugral must have been wondering if it would be his team’s night when Clifford Ngobeni followed suit in the second period, his shot from inside the box also hitting the bar.
He was left fuming again when amazingly it happened for a third time, Sheppard’s excellent free-kick smashing against the bar.
The home side then rubbed salt in the wound with a goal totally against the run of play.
Marc van Heerden’s corner was swung across and Zhuwawo headed home following a rare chance for Usuthu.
Arrows now face an important date on Saturday when they host bottom side Jomo Cosmos at the Princess Magogo Stadium, with that match due to kick-off at 15h00.
