Lamontville Golden Arrows ceded a lead away from home against Moroka Swallows on Sunday as they went down 3-2 in a thrilling encounter at the Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto.
Siyabonga Nomvete extended his lead at the head of the league’s goal scoring charts as he netted a hat trick to deny Arrows a chance to move up from 12th place in the Absa Premiership standings.
Swallows took the lead with a solid header from Nomvete, who rose above the Arrows defence to head home a cross from Lekgothoane.
But the 14th minute advantage was cancelled out six minute later when substitute Nkanyiso Mlotshwa, on early for the injured Siyabonga Nkosi, was brought down by Swallows captain Lefa Tsutsulupa and referee Robert Sithole awarded a penalty.
This was expertly converted by Thanduyise Khuboni for the second time in successive games.
Arrows looked strong candidates for only their fourth away win of the season when substitute Thamsanqa Gabuza scored after a good run down the flank from Mlotshwa in the 52nd minute. Gabuza had come on at half time for Collins Mbesuma.
The team were buzzing at 2-1 up but stung by the evergreen Nomvete, who equalised with the slightest of touches in melee at the end of a corner in the 66th minute.
Nomvete then popped up for the winner five minutes later with a headed goal to complete his hat trick.
Arrows kept Swallows on their toes until the end but the club missed a chance to go up to 10th place in the standings.
New assistant coach Shaun Bartlett ran the team from the bench with Muhsin Ertugral banished to the stands because of suspension.
