Lamontville Golden Arrows have been beaten 4-1 by Ajax Cape Town in an entertaining game at the Cape Town Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Siyabonga Nkosi was the lone scorer for Abafana Bes’thende, while Khama Billiat, Matthew Booth, Lebogang Manyama and George Maluleka were on target for the home side.
Golden Arrows took some time to get into the game and were punished on six minutes when Maluleka fed Billiat inside the box and the Zimbabwean was cool with his finish.

There was more disappointment for the visitors when young goalkeeper Nkosi Gumede’s error allowed Manyama’s floated cross to go into the net.

The 18-year-old looked to be affected by his error and was replaced some minutes later by the more experienced Ivorian Stephane Loboue.

But Ajax extended their lead to 3-0 when Booth was allowed a free-header from Maluleka’s free-kick and he powered his effort home.

Abafana Bes’thende pulled a goal back when Nkosi went on a dazzling solo run and provided an expert finish to leave the halftime score at 3-1.

The second half was end-to-end stuff and both Maluleka and Nkosi were unlucky when they both hit the frame of the goal with superb free-kicks.

The visitors pressed hard for a way back into the game and looked the better side in the second period, but were stung by a late goal as Ajax added a fourth.

Maluleka had a superb game for Ajax and he capped it off with a fine strike from the edge of the area that beat Arrows goalkeeper Loboue.

Muhsin Ertugral’s side now look forward to next week when they will have a major say in the destination of the Absa Premiership title.

Abafana Bes’thende host league leaders Orlando Pirates and if they can hold their visitors to a draw, could allow Moroka Swallows to pip Bucs at the top of the table.

That game will be played at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on May 19.
