KAIZER CHIEFS 1

2 GOLDEN ARROWS

Competition: PSL
Date: Wednesday, 28 September 2011
Venue: Peter Makoba Stadium
Kick-off: 19:30pm

Lamontville Golden Arrows produced an excellent away display to beat Kaizer Chiefs 2-1 in their Absa Premiership clash at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Wednesday night.

It is a famous victory for Abafana Bes’thende, who went into the game under pressure having suffered five defeats in their opening six games.

But goals from former Kaizer Chiefs striker Collins Mbesuma and defender Musa Bilankulu, who was later named Man of the Match, gave the visitors the victory.

George Lebese scored for AmaKhosi, and then missed a late penalty for what would have been a fortuitous point for the home side.

Golden Arrows were ahead on 14 minutes as Mbesuma profited with a simple tap-in after Dillon Sheppard’s shot had been spilled by Itumeleng Khune in the home goal.

It was a moment to savor for the big Zambian and also provided him with his third goal of the season.

There was a scare for Helton da Rocha in the Abafana Bes’thende goal when Tefu Mashamaite spotted him off his line and tried an audacious shot from inside his own half that the Brazilian keeper was forced to save for a corner.

Arrows’ second corner of the game provided their second goal with a near perfect delivery from Sheppard that Robyn Johannes first touched on, then Reneilwe Letsholonyane helped further, before it touched Bilankulu’s head and went into the back of the Chiefs net.

AmaKhosi pulled a goal back six minutes into the second half when substitute Lebese converted a cross from Jimmy Jambo.

Abafana Bes’thende had to withstand a barrage from Chiefs after that but were holding out well until Joseph Musonda was adjudged to have handled in the area, a decision that incensed the Golden Arrows players.

However, Lebese could not convert the penalty as he missed the target and Ernst Middendorp’s side held on for a famous win.

Golden Arrows’ next fixture is at home to Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday, October 15.
