GOLDEN ARROWS 0

1 BLOEM CELTIC

Competition: Absa Premiership
Date: Wednesday, 21 November 2012
Venue:King Zwelithini Stadium
Kick-off: 19:30pm

Lamontville Golden Arrows succumbed to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Bloemfontein Celtic in their Absa Premiership clash at a wet King Zwelithini Stadium on Wednesday night.

Abafana Bes’thende dominated for large parts of the match and created numerous scoring opportunities, but they came up against an in-form goalkeeper in Patrick Tignyemb.

Celtic grabbed the victory in injury-time through Thabo Nthethe, a huge disappointment for coach Manqoba Mngqithi who will believe his side deserved a point at the very least.

The visitors had the better of the chances in the opening 20 minutes, but were denied by a combination of Golden Arrows goalkeeper Pavels Steinbors and some valiant defending.
A slip from Joseph Musonda allowed Ruzaigh Gamildien a run on goal inside the opening two minutes, but Steinbors made a fine stop.

Lerato Manzine did manage to beat Steinbors ten minutes later, but Musonda made an excellent clearance off the line. Gamildien was again in the action when he forced Steinbors into an excellent save as the home side battled to get out of first gear.

But after that Abafana Bes’thende began to dominate. Bongi Ntuli and Musa Bilankulu both fired wide of goal from good positions. Thamsanqa Gabuza had time to pick his spot from the edge of the area, but fired directly at Celtic goalkeeper Patrick Tignyemb.

The Cameroonian was back in the action soon after halftime, making two excellent stops in quick succession. First he denied Bilankulu, before a fine stop from close-range to deny Gabuza.

Russell Mlotshwa had a great chance for Arrows with 20 minutes to go, but he spooned his shot over the bar from barely three yards out. A fine run from Jabulani Nene ends with a shot straight at Tignyemb once more, before Tignyemb is again the hero as he denies Gabuza with just three minutes remaining.

Just when it seemed as though the game may end goalless, Nthethe headed home a Lyle Lakay corner to grab the points with just seconds remainin on the clock.

Golden Arrows will now look forward to their next Absa Premiership clash on Sunday as they travel to SuperSport United. Celtic are at home to Mamelodi Sundowns on the same day.
