Bongi Ntuli scored late on to give Lamontville Golden Arrows a share of the points in a 2-2 Absa Premiership draw with Maritzburg United at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Wednesday night.

The point was the least that Abafana Bes’thende deserved after dominating the possession and chances in the game.

Ntuli came off the bench to equalise for Arrows early in the second half and then did so again late on, his seventh goal of the campaign to move ahead of Norman Smith as the club’s leading marksman.

Mngqithi decided to go with Thamsanqa Gabuza and Smith up front from the start, while Masonwabe Bovu was restored to the starting line-up.

The home side had the lead early on, Orlando Smeekes marking his return to the side with a goal on nine minutes.

Dillon Sheppard’s corner was half-cleared and Smeekes blasted the ball home from the edge of the area. Smith forced Shu-Aib Walters into a fine save, while Gabuza pushed his shot wide just before the break.

Mngqithi made two changes at the break, bringing on Lucky Nguzana for Bovu and Ntuli to replace Smith.

Arrows equalised just a minute into the second half as Ntuli netted with just about his first touch. He was fed in the area by Thanduyise Khuboni and applied a neat finish.

Nguzana then forced Walters into another fine save before the home side restored their lead. Terrence Mandaza had replaced Smeekes at the break and he fed Cuthbert Malajila to score.
Nguzana and Tshepo Liphoko both had shots go wide, while Ntuli fired over from close-range with a great chance to equalise.

The goal Arrows deserved finally did arrive in injury-time as Nguzana’s shot was only parried by Walters into the path of Ntuli, who applied the finish.
And the striker might have grabbed a winner late on as well, his header being well saved by Walters on this occasion.

Next up for Arrows is a trip to the Free State Stadium to face Bloemfontein Celtic on Sunday.
