Lamontville Golden Arrows’ Bloemfontein bogie has struck again after a 1-0 loss to Celtic in their Absa Premiership clash on Sunday afternoon.
Abafana Bes’thende have never managed a victory over Celtic in Bloemfontein and it was the case again as a lone goal from Joel Mogorosi settled this fixture.
Coach Manqoba Mngqithi continued to rotate his strikers, Bongi Ntuli returning to the starting line-up after his two-goal display off the bench against Maritzburg United in midweek.
That meant Norman smith was on the bench, along with Lucky Nguzana who had been a regular feature in the starting XI over the last few weeks.
It was a game of few chances for either side with perhaps the best for the visitors coming early on when Thanduyise Khuboni’s goal-bound effort was blocked by Thabo Nthethe.
The game looked as though it may be heading for a draw when Mogorosi profited from some good skill by Celtic substitute Lennox Bacela to score.
Smith, who had earlier come on for Sibusiso Hadebe, had a headed chance in injury-time, but put his effort well wide of goal.
The result sees Arrows drop down to 13th in the Absa Premiership table, five points above Black Leopards in the relegation play-off place with four gamed to go.
Arrows’ remaining fixtures see them take on SuperSport United at home next Sunday, as well as Moroka Swallows (May 1, away), Platinum Stars (May 11, home) and Ajax Cape Town (May 18, away).
