Lamontville Golden Arrows have ended their 2012/13 Absa Premiership season with a defeat after a 3-0 loss to Ajax Cape Town at the Athlone Stadium in Cape Town on Saturday.
Abafana Bes’thende were already safe going into the final weekend of matches, but they would still have wanted to finish the season on a high.
It was not to be though as goals from Mabhuti Khenyeza (two) and Toriq Losper ensured they would go home empty handed, and saved Ajax from the relegation playoffs.
The home side were ahead inside eight minutes when Khenyeza converted a cross from Khama Billiat to settle home nerves.
That was a set-back for the visitors, who pushed forward in numbers, but were denied by goalkeeper Sander Westerveld on two occasions, the first for Norman Smith and the second Bongi Ntuli.
It continued to be an even contest until 20 minutes to go when the home side bagged their second.
Good play from Khenyeza saw him cross for Losper and the young provided a neat finish.
Abafana Bes’thende continued to push forward on attack after that and those holes at the back saw Ajax score their third.
Lance Davids found himself in acres of space on the right and his low cross was expertly finished by Khenyeza.
Golden Arrows finish the season in 13th position n the league, but there have been plenty of positive signs for coach Manqoba Mngqithi to build on.
