Lamontville Golden Arrows have ended 2013 on a disappointing note with a 3-1 loss to Orlando Pirates at the Orlando Stadium on Sunday.
Abafana Bes’thende have a long wait until their next fixture now as the team head off for their festive season break, with their next game against Mamelodi Sundowns on February 5.
The first three goals came in the opening 25 minutes as Happy Jele put Pirates ahead, before Gift Sithole equalised two minutes later for Arrows.
But Oupa Manyisa netted his third goal in as many games to put Pirates in front once more, a lead they held for the remainder of the gameas Manyisa then added a third late in the game.
The home side had the lead when Lucky Lekgwathi’s header was expertly saved by Ryan Harrison in the Arrows goal, but Jele was on hand to turn home the rebound.
But just two minutes later and Arrows were level, Russell Mlotshwa supplied the corner and Sithole found the back of the net with a fine finish.
Manyisa is in excellent form and he put his side back in front after a neat right-footed finish that gave Harrison no chance.
The Arrows keeper then pulled off an excellent save early in the second period to deny Kermit Erasmus, after which Ayanda Gcaba headed wide.
Arrows pushed forward in search of an equalizer in the closing stages of the game, but found the Pirates defence impenetrable
And Manyisa added a third in injury-time at the end of the game to seal the points for the home side.
