GOLDEN ARROWS 0
1 MAMELODI SUNDOWNS
Competition: PSL
Date: Saturday, 31 August 2013
Venue: King Zwelithini Stadium
Kick-off: 15:00
Lamontville Golden Arrows suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of visiting Mamelodi Sundowns in their Absa Premiership clash played in Umlazi on Saturday.
A goal in the second half from Togolese international Dove Wome settled the match, though Abafana Bes’themde will feel they should have had a penalty and a chance to level the scores.
Home goalkeeper Siya Mngoma had an excellent afternoon, thwarting Sundowns on a number of occasions and looking as though eh might earn his side something from the game.
Having denied Wome and Bongani Zungu with good stops, he was finally beaten by the former on 57 minutes.
Philani Shange had a lively afternoon for Golden Arrows, with his inventive play on the right-hand side of midfield creating a number of opportunities.
The best chance of the day for the home side fell to Bongani Ntuli inside the opening few minutes, but he showed early nerves and failed to convert.
Abafana Bes’thende were convinced they should have had a penalty when Rashid Sumaila hacked down Lucky Nguzana in the box, but referee Philip Tinyani waved play-on.
Next up for Golden Arrows is an away trip to newly-promoted Polokwane City on September 15.
