Free State Stars have secured a 1-0 victory over Lamontville Golden Arrows in their Absa Premiership clash at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Wednesday evening.

It was harsh on Arrows, who made much of the play but missed a number of chances to score.
The only goal of the game came early on through Stars’ Ghanaian midfielder Mohammed Abdul Basit.

Abafana Bes’thende coach Manqoba Mngqithi gave a second consecutive start to on-loan striker Rudolf Bester, part of an attacking line-up that also included Bongi Ntuli and Lucky Nguzana.
The visitors were ahead inside nine minutes as Enva Wiltwer cross and Abdul-Basit had the simple task of heading home.

Nguzana almost conjured an immediate reply when he was teed-up by Philani Shange, but he dragged his effort wide of goal.

Arrows were pressing hard for the equaliser and Siphiwe Sithole headed wide with a good opportunity from a free-kick, but they could create no more clear-cut chances in the opening half.

Bester was replaced at the break by Nkanyiso Madonsela and the home side continue to look the more potent on attack.

Vuyisile Ntombayithethi forced an excellent diving save from Stars goalkeeper Daniel Agyei, while Ntuli saw his goal-bound effort blocked.

Ntuli then had a clearer side of goal with five minutes remaining but missed the target, before just minutes later missing another scoring opportunity as the chances mounted.

Try as they might Arrows could not forced an equalizer and had to settle for the 1-0 defeat.
Next up for Abafana Bes’thende is a visit to University of Pretoria on Sunday.
