BIDVEST WITS 2
3 GOLDEN ARROWS
Competition: Telkom Cup Knockout
Date: Friday,04 October2013
Venue: Bidvest Stadium
Lamontville Golden Arrows have twice come from behind to secure a magnificent 3-2 victory over BidVest Wits at the BidVest Stadium in the first round of the Telkom Knockout on Friday night.
It is a second win of the season for Abafana Bes’thende, the side showing amazing character to turn around the game with a brilliant second half performance.
Arrows now move into Monday’s draw for the quarterfinals thanks to a brace from Bongi Ntuli and a winner from Rudolf Bester.
It did not start well for Arrows though as Wits took the lead inside six minutes. Matthew Pattison’s deep free-kick was headed home by Kwanda Mngonyama.
Wits continued to press but it was Arrows who scored next, Bester leading a breakaway on the right and his low cross providing a simple tap-in for Ntuli.
The Clever Boys were back in front before halftime though, Ayanda Lubelo’s cross perfect for Sibusiso Vilakazi to score from eight yards.
The way this season has gone for Arrows it looked nimous for the visitors at the break, but the players put in a much improved second half, dominating the player and the chances.
They were level once more on 61 minutes when as Ntuli showed good composure to beat Josephs from close-range.
Shange dragged his shot wide with just the goalkeeper to beat, while Bester missed two sitters in either half, the first he headed wide and the second he blasted over from 10-yards with Josephs floundering.
But the Namibian international did get his goal, and a winner for Arrows, as he scuffed his shot into the ground, the ball looping past Josephs, who could not keep it out of the net.
Faty Papy had a final chance for Wits near the death, but his header was directed straight at Arrows goalkeeper Nkosi Gumede, when a metre either side and he would have scored.
