ORLANDO PIRATES 4
0 GOLDEN ARROWS
Competition: Telkom Cup Knockout
Date: Wednesday,23 October2013
Venue: Orlando Stadium
Lamontville Golden Arrows have bowed out of the Telkom Knockout competition after a 4-0 loss to Orlando Pirates in their quarterfinal at the Orlando Stadium on Wednesday.
Abafana Bes’thende were rocked by an early goal from Lennox Bacela, who went on to net a hat-trick, and never recovered as Kermit Erasmus compounded their misery by getting on the scoresheet as well.
It was the first match in charge for new coach Mark Harrison and he will have a better idea now of where he needs to focus his attention to get Arrows back on track in the next few weeks.
Bacela opened the scoring on 11 minutes, heading past Siya Mngoma in the Arrows goal from a pinpoint Khethowakhe Masuku cross.
It was wave after wave of Pirates attack as Arrows tried desperately to get out of their own half, and they fell further behind when Masuku again found Bacela in the box and his header was lashed home by Erasmus
It was 3-0 before the break, Oupa Manyisa laying on the perfect pass for Bacela to run onto and the forward crashed the ball home at the near post.
The torture continued for the visitors when Bacela netted his fourth having been played into space in the box and beating Mngoma with a composed side-footed finish.
Credit to the Arrows players though they never gave up and continued to try and get something from the game, but it was not to be.
Harrison will now look forward to Saturday’s way clash with Mpumalanga Black Aces to bounce back and rebuild some confidence within the team.
Orlando Pirates (3) 4 (Bacela 11’, 42, 57’, Erasmus 34’)
Lamontville Golden Arrows 0
