Lamontville Golden Arrows have defeated Milano FC in their delayed NFD encounter at Philipi Stadium tonight.

The game, scheduled to kick-off at 7 30pm, eventually got underway an hour later, after load-shedding caused the match officials to delay kick-off.

The first half began with the first 10 minutes being a midfield battle, neither taking the ball into the opponents last 20m or taking shots at goal. The teams each trying to determine what the opposition teams game plan was for the night. After 10 minutes, Abafana Bes’thende got a free kick from the edge of the box, hendricks took the cross and Khenyeza opened the account for Golden Arrows making it 1-0 with a header.

Milano fought back and had an opportunity in the 20th minute when they played a long ball into the box. Mbaeva came out to clear the ball but clashed with Mngwengwe, the ball landed at a Milano players feet, and he took a shot at the open goals, only to be denied by Mathiane who managed to clear the ball away. The tempo for the game was set, with each team taking full advantage of their possession and trying to make the most of it. This led to Lamontville Golden Arrows having another opportunity in the 25thminute with a set piece from the same place as earlier, Hendricks takes a powerful free kick, but the Milano keeper makes a great save.

Two minutes later Milano go on the attack, Mkhize makes a foul outside the box and they got a free kick but failed to make anything of it as they push it wide of the goals. The game again went into a midfield battle and Milano missed an opportunity in the 40th minute as the ball was shot off target over the bar.

Abafana Bes’thendes second goal of the evening came from another set piece. Hendricks again took the kick, crosses it and it found the head of Fikizolo, who headed it into the back of the net. With 2 minutes extra time added, Sibeko found himself one-on-one with the keeper, but unfortunately he shot it wide.

The second half was a battle in midfield again. Both teams with solid defence, and no shots were made at goal in the first 10 minutes. Milano then had a breakthrough and an opportunity to score, when they played a long ball up field and had a great opportunity to take a shot. Mathiane however made an amazing tackle to make sure that the ball never found the back of the net. Milano then went on the attack again and took a shot from outside the box and it hit the bar, denying them to get on the scoring board.

In the last 5 minutes Lamontville Golden Arrows go on a final attack. Khenyeza gives the Milno defence a run for their money, creating two scoring opportunities, but just missed the goals. The final attack came from Khenyeza as well, Hotto took the ball upfield, crossed it to Khenyeza who shoots and scores, but is deemed offside by the referee.

This has been the result that Lamontville Golden Arrow have wanted. Maximum points from an away game, no goals conceded and a couple of goals in the bag. They will be looking forward to Saturdays game, that sees them take on FC Cape Town at home. Your support would go a long way in encouraging their objective of automatic promotion at the end of the season.
