Lamontville Golden Arrows have beaten FC Cape Town by 2 -0 in their NFD encounter this afternoon.
The game, which began at a fast pace, never seemed to slow down at all, with the full game being a heated exchange between the two teams.
It was evident from the first whistle that this would be a hotly contested game between the two sides. With each team making use of their possession from the offset. The first half was set at a cracking pace, with each team playing the ball up to the opposition box as quickly and efficiently as possible, then trying to create scoring chances.
With long volleys or short ground playing, both teams played the ball quickly through their midfield to create scoring opportunities as quickly as possible.
It was Golden Arrows however that benefitted from this play in the 28thminute. After an FC Cape Town corner was taken and cleared away by Golden Arrows defence, it was quickly taken upfield by Arrows, into the FC box and Fikizolo nudged the ball past the keeper to open the Abafana Bes’thende Account.
The degree of the physicality of the game was prevelant already by this stage, and a number of hard hitting encounters had already happened with Fikizolo being a casualty and in the 34th minute was substituted off by Hotto.
Going into the changerooms at half time with a 1-0 lead was a major positive for the home side, and on return to the field were showing determination to improve on that. FC Cape Town came out with the same attitude though and the second half was 45 minutes of hard physical football.
Each team was playing a hard and fast game, both looking for the right opportunity to score from their set movements. FC Cape Town created a number of scoring chances but were just not fortunate to score, with Mbaeva making a couple of brilliant saves, and solid, defensive cleaning out from the Arrows defence.
It was from the strong play of Nxumalo that Lamontville Golden Arrows scored their second goal. After the team pushed the FC Cape Town defence one too may times,he found himself on the FC goal line. Nxumalo who had subbed Sibeko, pushed the ball , defelcting it off an FC Cape Town player, past the opposition goalie to seal the win for the home side.
FC Cape Town however, never gave up, and fought till the last whistle.
Another 3 points for the team, another step in the quest for automatic promotions.
The next game is against Amazulu, in a Nedbank Cup encounter next Friday nightat Princess Magogo Stadium.
