AMAZULU FC 1
2 GOLDEN ARROWS
Competition: Nedbank Cup
Date: Friday ,20 February 2015
Venue: Princess MagogoStadium
Kick-off: 20:00pm
Lamontville Golden Arrows have beaten Amazulu in their Nedbank Cup KZN Derby match at Princess Magogo Stadium tonight.
Abafana Bes’thende started the game at a medium pace, and seemed to be measuring up the opposition. Amazulu however, wanted to take the game to them from the first whistle, and it was in the first two minutes that they had their first attack on the Golden Arrows goals. Having to think on their feet, the Lamontville boys made good use of the posession they managed to get, but for the majority of the first half it seemed like Amazulu had the upper hand most of the time. It was the 9th minute goal from Mwape that seemed to throw Golden Arrows, but they fought back hard and managed to go into the change rooms at half time with an equaliser as Khenyeza shot one into the back of the net in 2 minutes of additional time of the first half.
This seemed to fire up the boys and they came out in the second half guns blazing and ready to take the game to Amazulu. Some enterprising play from Sibeko, Khenyeza, Sangweni and Mkhize put tremendous pressure on the Amazulu defence and when Hotto came on as a substitute for Sangweni the Amazulu side seemed at sixes and sevens.
This heightened pressure payed off and it was from a piece of play from Hotto and Khenyeza that the Amazulu defense faltered and this resulted in an own goal from Pietersen, giving Lamontville Golden Arrows the lead.
Amazulu fought back but missed three opportunities to equalise and take the game into extra time.
Abafana Bes’thende will resume their NFD fixtures with an away game to African Warriors at Charles Molepi Stadium next Saturday.
