Lamontville Golden Arrows have defeated Jomo Cosmos in an epic 3-1 battle in Chatsworth this afternoon.

The team came out firing in the first minute, attacking the goal, with an attempt from Kenyeza just being defelected, giving Golden Arrows a corner, which is played and the ball just skims over the crossbar. The intent was clear from Shaun Bartlett’s charges, this was a win only game!

The remainder of the half saw Golden Arrows placing a great deal of pressure on the Cosmos goals, keeping Sherwyn Naiker on his toes. Play from both set pieces and obtaining posession from the opposition saw Golden Arrows enjoy more shots at goal than their opposition.

Their breakthrought came in the 27th minute when Prince Nxumalo put the ball in the back of the net to give the home team the lead. Cosmos however did not want to take it lying down and tried hard to get back into Arrows half and take advantage of the posession they had, but some great keeping and solid defence never allowed them the opportunity.

Golden Arrows had another opportunity 10 mintes later, when Fikizolo had a shot that hit the bar, bounced back in field and Nxumalo tried to head it in, but his attempt just passed over the bar.

Going into the changeroom it was Golden Arrows who enjoyed the advantage, however 5 minutes into the second half, Jomo Cosmos equalised off the boot of Brice Aka to increase pressure on the home side.

This set the mood for a great deal of the second half, and the game became physical, with Cosmos tackling hard to try and get posession. They enjoyed a number of opportunities to score, however could just not get past the defence and Mbaeva to capitalise.

This also cost them dearly, when they were reduced to 10 men after the Match referee gave one of their players a red for recurring infringements.

This opened up gaps in their defence and Abafana Bes’thende took advantage of the situation when first Fikizolo scored followed 5 minutes later by Hotto, who had come onto the park and once again helped put pressure on the visitors with some illustrious play.

This sees Lamontville Golden Arrows taking the top of the NFD log once again, with Cosmos moving again to second.

Golden Arrows will now have a week to prepare for their game against Ga-rankuwa at Pilditch Stadium next Saturday the 14th.
