Abafana Bes’thende have progressed into the last 8 of the Nedbank Cup after their 1-0 victory over Natal United today in Chatsworth. The only goal of the game was scored by Mabhudi Khenyeza in the 58th minute to give Golden Arrows the win. The first half started with both teams trying to get the upper hand by scoring an early goal, this set a blistering tempo on the field, and it was a back and forth game, each team taking the ball up and trying to create chance the entire half.
Natal United created opportunities, but the solid hands of Mbaeva, managed to ensure that there was no score to be enjoyed by the visitors.
Golden Arrows themselves had a number of opportunities, and Katjuikua headed the ball over the crossbar in one opportunity, that would have opened the account for the home team.
Needless to say, neither team managed to get on the board before the half time break, and Coach Shaun Bartlett must have had strong words with his team in the break, as they returned to the park and seemed to dominate the second half.
Khenyeza had a solid attempt early on, which Zondi managed to hold onto. But it was clear that the Lamontville side meant business now.
Golden Arrows style of play was more prominent in the second half, and this allowed Khenyeza another shot, which he pushed into the back of the net to take the side to a 1-0 lead in the 58th minute.
Shots from Fikizolo and Khenyeza as well as well executed pressure from Hotto and Mkhize, when he was on the field, ensured that the visitors were kept on their toes.
But some impressive keeping from Zondi meant that Lamontville Golden Arrows would finish the game at 1-0.
We now wait to see how the last 8 draw which takes place tomorrow and hope it will be favourable to Abafana Bes’thende.
