MALUTI FET 2
5 GOLDEN ARROWS
Date: Saturday ,18 April 2015
Venue: Charles Mopeli Stdm
Abafana Bes’thende have beaten Maluti FET College 5-2 in their NFD game this afternoon at Charles Mopeli Stadium.
The first half was a major onfield battle, with Abafana Bes’thende almost scoring in the first minute off a header from Mngwengwe which went just wide of the goal. Minutes later Mkhize had a chance which was saved by Maluti’s keeper denying him the oportunity.
Fikizolo then found himself one on one with the keeper but was also denied with another amazing save from the Maluti FET keeper, and then a lapse in concentration from the Golden Arrows defence allowed Maluti to put one in the back of the net on their counter attack.
This made the coaching staff look at making an early sub in the game, with S.Dube coming off for Hendricks. There was then a long break in play, as Maluti FET’s goalie received medical attention.
Golden Arrows then opened their account off the boot of Katjiukua from a set peice taken by Hendricks, but the equaliser was short lived, when Maluti played the ball to an open players in the box, who scored their second goal to give them the lead again.
The remainder of the half saw Golden Arrows making wave after wave of attack on the Maluti FFET goal, but some well executed saves from their replacemnt keeper saw the home side go into the changerooms leading 2-1 at half time.
After the break, it was not long until Golden Arrows subbed Mkhize for Nxumalo. The game plan had changed to attack, while Maluti FET just seemed to want to play to retain their lead. Abafana Bes’thende were bent on keeping their automatic promotion campaign alive, and went into overdrive, attacking the opponents goals as often as possible.
Their equaliser goal came after a Maluti FET player handed the ball, giving Golden Arrows the penalty which was taken by Fikizo and converted.
Once again Fikizolo, aided by Khenyeza, went on the attack, and off a lob ball he played towards the goal. Maluti’s replacement keeper came out the goals and fouled him. The ref awarded him a red card, Hendricks took the free kick and scored, taking the visitors tally to 3 goals. The lead was taken, and Maluti FET were on the back foot.
Things then got difficult for Maluti, and having lost their first choice goal keeper to injury in the first half, had to use their infield player as goalie.
This gave Golden Arrows another 2 opportunities to score, Khenyeza slotted one in after some impressive play between Sikhakhane, Masaole and himself and in the dying minutes, Nxumalo put one in the back of the net off a lob ball Cele received and passed.
Abafana Bes’thende will now be back at Princess Magogo Stadium on Wednesday 22 April for their next NFD encounted against Vasco da Gama. Please get to the game and support the boys if you can.
