Lamontville Golden Arrows have played to a goalless draw against FC Cape Town in NKK Rugby Stadium this afternoon.
The team started the game off on the back foot, with FC Cape Town dominating the play with stronger, more aggressive play. They were able to control the high ball more giving them an advantage on the field for the first 10 minutes of the game. FC Cape Town played a very aggressive game, with their defence not coming up at all, staying back in defence and making it difficult for Lamontville Golden Arrows to get through them. In the 30th minute we had an opportunity to score from a set corner, Khubone crossed the ball and it found the head of Mngwengwe, but he unfortunately headed it wide of the goal. In the final 10 minutes of the first half, FC Cape Town got a corner, it was crossed and both Hendricks and Sekgobela went up for a header, And had a clash of heads, leading to the game being stopped for 7 minutes So that the injured players could be attended too. This meant that extra time added would be 7 minutes of play to the the first half.
There was a chance for FC Cape Town in the last minute of the half, with a cross which was headed towards the goal, Mbaeva made a great one handed save to keep the ball out.
The second half of the game was more equal, with both teams playing confidently, trying to find the advantage to get the ball into the back of the net. In the 20th minute, Hotto takes a shot at goal, FC Cape Towns keeper saves it. Golden Arrows were looking confident and at this stage of the game were attacking at every opportunity they could, while FC Cape Town were more on the defence in their play. This saw Mathiane going on attack, as he crossed the ball into the box to a man marked Tebogo who won the header and headed the ball, only to have it find the crossbar. Abafana Bes’thende looked very good at this stage of the game, creating opportunities whenever they could. A free kick from Zwane saw the ball put in the box, the keeper came out and missed the ball completely, and saw the ball fall for Cele heads it to Hotto, who attempts to head it towards the goal but it just wide of the post.
FC Cape Town had an opportunity in extra time to take the game, long ball from GK to Sekgobela who received the ball and held it up For the on coming player who hit a great shot on target and Mbaeva makes an amazing save to ensure the game finishes in a goalless draw.
Next game for Lamontville Golden Arrows as they return home is against African Warriors at Princess Magogo Stadium Saturday 20 September at 15:00
