HIGHLANDS PARK 1
2 GOLDEN ARROWS
Date: Sunday ,10 May 2015
Venue: Makhulong Stadium
Lamontville Golden Arrows have completed their 2014/15 NFD season with a 2-1 win over Highlands Park FC before being crowned the NFD Champions after the game.
The first half was a sure indication to the whole game, with Highlands making it clear that they were showing no respect for the Champion side and that it would be business as usual for them this afternoon as they played from the heart from the first whistle.
It was a pretty equal half, with Golden Arrows enjoying a 51 percent advantage over Highlands Park’s 49 as both teams battled it out on the field. Sibusiso Sibeko scored in the 29th minute of the half, after Highlands goal keeper came way out of his goal in defence, and had a way to get back to his post, while Arrows advanced on it again. Having just got into position, Sibeko curled one past him from the left to open the Golden Arrows scoring.
The remainder of the half was a team on team battle, as each fought to get up to the goal again to create scoring opportunities.
The second half saw Highlands Park substitute two players from the changeroom in an attempt to change the tempo of the game for them, and this paid off for a short while after they equalised after 12 minutes into the half.
It was not however enough and Golden Arrows once again took the lead from a corner taken by Hotto. It was played into the box and Nxumalo on the far post, un-marked, nudged it into the back of the net to give Abafana Bes’thende the lead.
Highlands could just not get back from that, although they never gave up until the last minute, even looking dangerous in the last 3 minutes additional time that was added on.
Abafana Bes’thende were officially named Champions of the NFD for the season, with Chairwoman Mato Madlala receiving the winning cheque from PSL C.E.O Brand de Villiers and the players and coaching staff receiving their medals and the trophy, held high by a proud Matome Mathiane straight after the game.
We would like to thank ALL of our supporters for the encouragement we have received through the season. For believing in us, our players and our belief that promotion could be achieved one game at a time. We salute you!
The first team is excited to see you next season, as we start a new chapter and re-enter the realms of the PSL.
