Lamontville Golden Arrows have drawn with Jomo Cosmos in their NDF fixture at Vaal Tech Stadium this afternoon. After a gruelling away game, neither team was able to capitalise and put the ball in the back of the net.

The first 10 minutes of the game was even from both sides, with more of the play taking place in the middle of the park, with Arrows being denied by an attacking Cosmos side of being able to play their passing game. The temp of play changed quickly, with each side deciding to action their game plan in full force, this saw N. Cele losing the ball in Golden Arrows half allowing Cosmos to go on the attack. Fortunately Mngwengwe made a challenge, saving Arrows from conceding an early goal. After 15 minutes, Abafana Bes’thende get their first corner of the game, S. Sithole takes the set play into the box and the ball is shot wide by Mkhize. Jomo Cosmos then took the ball on the attack again, causing the Golden Arrows defence to have to increase their work rate to ensure that the home team is denied scoring opportunities. The game play that Cosmos had adopted for the day, had been effective in stopping Golden Arrows from playing their passing game, closing Arrows down and not allowing them any space to play. Determination by the players to create opportunities saw Mkhize put a cross into the box in the 35th minute, Zwane takes a shot, but there’s not enough behind it and easily saved by the goalkeeper. The battle between the teams, sees Cosmos go on the attack again, they get a free kick, and a decent cross into the box sees an attempt thwarted with a great save from Mbaeva. At the end of the first half, both teams go into the changeroom with no score.

The team returned to the field showing more aggression and determination after the break and began creating more opportunity on the field as a whole. The coaching staff decide to try and change things up, subbing Zwane for Khubone in the 45th minute. This changed the tempo for the green and gold boys, and the determination seems to increase. Another sub was made in the 60thminute, with S. Sithole coming off the field to be replaced by Hotto, another strategy change from the Coach. That being said, Cosmos found a gap and went on the counter with a couple of passages of play that saw Arrows having to consolidate and defend, the first play sees Madonsela play to Aka, but he shoots it wide of the posts. Five minutes after, they are again on the front foot, and received a free kick at the edge of the box, Madonsela takes it but Mbaeva makes a save which denied cosmos the opportunity to score. For the third attacking phase from the home team, Aka played a great ball in the box but is denied by brilliant clearance from Siyabonga Dube who had an outstanding game.

Abafana Bes’thende decide to turn the game a bit and go on attack themselves, Mathiane blasts the ball into the box to Khubone, but its cleared away by Cosmos. attack also means the tempo of the game rises and with this being said arrows make their 3rd and final change and substituting Masaole for Mdletshe. Tactical change which meant the coaches wanted fresh legs upfront because they wanted 3points and didn’t want to settle for s draw. 85th min Parusnath fouls a Cosmos player at the edge of the box. Cosmos take the free kick but Mbaeva makes an easy save. With a few minutes remaining Cosmos lose the ball in their half, their keeper is off his line, Hotto is on the attack and tries to chip it over the keepers head, but he pushes it wide. Cosmos then have an aggressinve passage of play and Madonsela attacks, he is one on one with Mbaeva when Mathiane makes a fantastic tackle and the ball goes to a corner.

This opens a flood gate in the final 5 minutes of the game, which sees both teams attacking the opposition goal at any opoortunity possible, however, neither side manage to capitalise on the attemps, and the final whistle is blown with the score at 0-0.
