Abafana Bes’thende have lost 3-1 to Kaizer Chiefs in Tuesdays Premiership fixture at FNB Stadium.
The first half of the game was dominated by Kaizer chiefs, they had the possession, the field advantage and the drive as they played a game that closed out any possession that Lamontville Golden Arrows enjoyed. The field advantage that Chiefs had allowed them to create opportunities to get the ball into the back of the net, and they opened their scoring in the 5 minute after they were awarded a penalty after their player was pulled down in the box by Mathiane. Mbaeva was beaten as he dived the opposite way to the ball, and allowed Lebese to score for the home side. He got his brace in the 22nd minute with a left footed finish after Parker saw them into the box to create the second.
The Chiefs game plan closed down both Hotto and Mahachi, and they were not able to get up field as often as they would have wanted to help create the opportunities for Khenyeza. The first half was frustrating for Abafana Bes’thende and they went onto the half time break with no score on the board.
The team returned after their break and looked more focussed and composed than the first 45. They were getting possession and their ones and twos were getting them up field and into the box to create chances at goal. Just 3 minutes after the half however, Shitolo was given a red card and Golden Arrows reduced to 10 for what the referee deemed a studs-up tackle.
With the side a man down they stood their ground and played some well executed and planned moves, enjoying more possession than the first half.
Siyabonga Dube then pulled one back for Golden Arrows in the 50th minute. He managed to gain possession of the ball, played up the far side and took a shot that snuck in the top corner, beating Khune.
The morale of the team to increase from this, and all of a sudden the Golden Arrows player seemed driven to win against the odds against their opponents.
They fought back hard and had a number of opportunities to score, but a well-practiced defence from Kaizer Chiefs denied them any real opportunities.
The final nail came in the 77th minute when Parker added the 3rd goal into Chiefs tally and sealed the fate of the visiting side.
We have a relatively long break now and play Bidvest Wits at Wits Stadium in a 15h30 kick off on 21 November .
