Abafana Bes’thende have drawn to Ajax Cape Town in their PSL fixture played at king Zwelithini Stadium this evening.

The first half was a man on man battle with both teams trying to dominate both field and possession, pushing up into the last third whenever possible. Gumede had a great half and managed a number of saves to deny the visitors scoring. In the 18th minute Lamontville Golden Arrows pushed up field with Sikhakhane taking the ball up the left, he crossed it into the box and Mahachi, waiting to the right was fouled by Cale. The referee awarded a penalty and Fikizolo stepped up to the mark, took the kick and scored the opener for the game, and his first PSL goal.

Ajax Cape Town responded quickly however and found Abafana Bes’thende’s defenders lacking concentration. They scored an equaliser from Cale off a cross from Isaacs. This set off a flurry of attempts at goal from Ajax to try and take the lead before half time, but both great defending and some impressive work from Gumede denied them the opportunity.

Both teams returned to the field after the break determined to take home the 3 points for the win, but the second half was a battle to the death for the 22 men on the field. It was a hard, aggressive 45 minutes that saw everyone putting their bodies on the line to try and take the win. It was all in all a team effort from Abafana Bes’thende tonight, with each man putting his all into the game and making sure that his work was done.

Ramagalela left the field and was substituted by Khenyeza, this added a change of pace and one that Ajax were not expecting. The attacks on goal increased with Khenyeza managing to get up into the box, however, none of the moves could be capitalised on.

The team will regroup and concentrate on Saturday’s game when they meet Chippa at 15h30 at Chatsworth Stadium. Get to the game and show the support to the team, it would be appreciated.
