Lamontville Golden Arrows have suffered another defeat in the PSL at the hand of Bidvest Wits at Chatsworth this afternoon.
The home side played a great first half, taking the ball up to the opponents last third and looking to create scoring opportunities, but were unlucky not to have scored from their set movements. Abafana Bes’thende attacked in the 18thminute with Hotto taking a shot from the right hand side, but his effort went wide. Mahachi then went forward and unleashed a shot after a one-touch forward move and narrowly missed from his shot from the edge of the box.
In the 28th minute The Clever Boys managed to score when Hlanti took a free kick 10m outside the box and curled it in to beat Mbaeva and slot it into he top right corner to score for the visitors. Only a couple minutes later Mbaeva was again under pressure when Botes took a set piece kick from almost the exact same place, but pushed it over the bar.
Arrows responded through Ramagalela, who had a shot a couple of minutes later, but Josephs was up to the task and made a good save to deny an equaliser. Then, with minutes left until half time Shitolo missed a sitter from the left, with Khenyeza denied by the woodwork only a minute later.
The teams went into the change rooms with Wits having the one goal lead on Lamontville Golden Arrows. The pace of the game seemed to drop in the second half, and both teams slowed their game plans down. Arrows were playing a game, looking to beat the opposition and creating clear scoring opportunities. Wits seemed as if they were biding their time and waiting for the right time to score a second.
Hlanti had a couple of opportunities to take the visitors up again, in the 60th he delivered a great shot from a set piece, but Mbaeva tipped it over the bar to deny him.
Hotto worked hard to play up into the oppositions last third and managed to create opportunities for Ramagalela, however Makudubela, who had come on to replace Mahachi, had the most promising shot of the day for the home side. Playing up field, he took a shot a distance which blasted in, beating Josephs but finding the upright. Zitha came up, took a shot off the rebound, but pushed it wide.
The Arrows players will need to use the week to gain some composure ahead of their game next weekend at Peter Mokaba Stadium against Polokwane City and come back with a much needed 3 points for their 2015/16 campaign.
