Lamontville Golden Arrows have played to a goalless draw against Jomo Cosmos this afternoon at Olen Park.

In the team’s second outing for the new season, they fought a hard game, but were not able to convert as many opportunities as they would have liked. The first half belonged to the visiting team who had 9 shots on goal, with 3 on target. We dominated play in all aspects, attacking hard and defending when needed, with the midfield players looking stronger than their opponents from the first whistle. Khenyeza, Ramagalela and Musonda plied pressure on the Cosmos defenders, taking the Ball up at every opportunity in an attempt to get a first half break through. Jomo Cosmos defence held though and Naiker’s keeping denied 2 sure shots. The teams went into the change rooms at a zero score stalemate.

In the second half Cosmos came out with the intention of making an early breakthrough in the second half. They dominated play in the first 10 minutes after returning to the field, but they could not get through Abafana Bes’thende’s defence and it eventually seemed as they would be reduced to playing a defending game after not creating the opportunities they would have liked. Lamontville Golden Arrows consolidated and continued adding pressure to the home team, but were not able to penetrate through the centre effectively to enable them to get the ball into the back of the net.

Although the team returns with 1 point from the draw, there are a number of positive elements for the management and players to draw from after the second game of the season.

It was also encouraging to see some supporters in the crowd, and we thank those of you who were at the stadium for getting behind the team in their 2015/2016 campaign.

We have a couple 2days break, and then take on Platinum Stars at Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Wednesday night. It’s a 19h30kick-off and we would appreciate all of our followers support. It is encouraging for us to know that you’re all behind us. The game is not on tv so we will be tweeting the whole game.
