Abafana Bes’thende have lost their league game after going down 3-0 to Supersport united at Chatsworth this afternoon.

Stuart Baxter’s charges opened the scoring in the 5th minute after Wome opened for the team with a goal in the bottom corner, beating Mbaeva and indicating that they were in Durban for the win. Supersport attacked relentlessly in the first 20 minutes, and were close to increasing their lead off the boot of Brockie in the 15th minute, but his shot curled wide of target.

The pressure they were putting on Golden Arrows finally came to a head, when Katjiukua was deemed to have pulled Daniels down in the box, and the visitors were awarded a penalty which was taken by Nkhatha. His shot just beat Mbaeva who read the direction well, but was unable to stop the shot.

Lamontville Golden Arrows battled to create opportunities in the first half, and when they managed to get into the last third, looked unsure on decisions, losing ball and concentration when it counted and unable to have any serious shots at goal.

Arrows showed more flare in the second half and created a couple of opportunities to score, but Williams defended Matsatsantsa’s goal well, and denied the hosts pulling one back.

The feat was made even more difficult in the 70th minute when Siyabonga Dube was given his marching orders after receiving two yellow cards. Lamontville Golden Arrows had to dig deep to try and create scoring opportunities, while defending a position. They had times where they looked good, but already on the back foot, were stretched on the field.

The game was sealed in the 86th minute when a tight cross from the right by Phala beat the defence, and Mbaeva, and found Brockie on the left, who just nudged the ball in for the Pretoria side.

A disappointing result for Lamontville Golden Arrows, and not one that Mbaeva and Captain Mathiane were hoping for as their 50th cap reminder.

The team have a two week break from League games, but face Baroka F.C on the 3rd April in the Nedbank Cup.
