Lamontville Golden Arrows and Orlando Pirates played an epic encounter this afternoon that saw Pirates winning 4-1.

The result itself does not depict the game which saw each team dominating a half at Moses Mabhida Stadium. Abafana Bes’thende started well, but poor defence allowed Orlando Pirates to put two goals past Mbaeva in relatively quick succession and put the home team on the back foot. Ndoro took the first after 12 minutes, Memela the second. This increased pressure on the team, who attacked well with possession but opened cracks on the defence. This caused silly decisions, one being Siyabonga Dube to pull down a Pirates player in the box, and conceding a penalty.

Ndoro walked up, placed and made sure that Golden Arrows would be going into the break having to think about pulling back 3 goals just to equalise.

The second 45 saw the home side coming out and dominating from the whistle in all aspects of the game, not allowing Pirates to play as free game as they did in the first. Golden Arrows did well to keep Pirates at bay while creating opportunities to score. The finishing did just not favour them and hard work from both the senior and junior players together went unrewarded. Pirates found themselves a man down after their skipper received his marching orders after a second yellow and Pirates needed to consolidate to close up gaps on the field.

Some changes from Larsen saw Sibiya enter the fray, and it was off his boot and well executed play from Hotto that saw Golden Arrows pull one back off a free kick. Hotto played a quick ball, snuck it past the defenders and Sibiya snuck up the right and put the ball in the back of the net

It was a game of two sides, each team dominating and winning 45 minutes of play, but the task of coming back from 3 was just not within Arrows reach. Sarr then sealed the score for Pirates off a corner, ensuring the win.

Lamontville Golden Arrows have a couple days to prepare for Maritzburg United, who they meet mid-week on Wednesday at Princess Magogo Stadium, with a 19h30 kick-off.
