Lamontville Golden Arrows drew with Maritzburg United at Princess Magogo Stadium tonight in a return battle of the two KZN based sides.
Again, a pressurised Maritzburg United brought all of their arsenal to the game and this set the scene for an explosive 90 minutes of soccer. From the first whistle, it was clear the game was going to be a battle to the end, and both Abafana Bes’thende and Maritzburg United delivered on that.
Lamontville Golden Arrows got the game underway tonight, and within the first two minutes had played Ramagalela up into Maritzburgs last third, allowing him to get his first look at a goal, however the Maritzburg defenders were clear on their intentions for the night and did well to clear the ball away. The home side would be relentless in playing up field and attacking the visitors goals throughout the game but their only goal came in the 18thminute when Sibiya was brought down in the box by Salie. Nkanyiso Cele came up to the mark and made sure, easing the ball into the back of the net.
Maritzburg United were then dealt a further blow after Mekoa was shown a straight red for dissent, reducing his side to 10 men.
Golden Arrows enjoyed the lead until the 71stminute, when Rusike passed a quick counter ball off to Lentjies on the right hand side of the goal, who took a low shot which beat Mbaeva to give them an equaliser.
The draw leaves both teams in the same place as they previously were on the log, Lamontville Golden Arrows sitting 11th and Maritzburg United at 16th.
Clinton Larsen needs to concentrate on the next game in a weeks’ time, which will be against Mpumalanga Black Aces at Mbombela Stadium, on Wednesday 27th of April at 15:00
