Competition: PSL
Date: Wednesday,26 August 2015
Venue: Royal Bafokeng Stadium
Kick-off: 19:30pm
Abafana Bes’thende has suffered a 2-0 defeat against Platinum Stars this evening at Royal Bafokeng Stadium. The side played a hard fought and physical match but failed to finish off where it counted, costing them the game.
They started the game aggressively, showing the home side that they were after full points tonight, but Platinum Stars responded with Tshabalala scoring off a left footed finish to give the hosts the lead just after 5 minutes. For the next half an hour, the game was a physical one, with both sides playing a physical game that saw Platinum Stars conceding a number of fouls. This never worked to Lamontville Golden Arrows advantage however, and the team could just not get the break-through they were looking for to equalise. The frustration became obvious in the game, and the number of unfair challenges increased on both sides. Platinum Stars however, managed to double their lead with just 5 minutes until the half after Rodgers headed the ball into the net off a cross from Mere.
The second half was a huge on field battle with both sides trying to take advantage of possession. Abafana Bes’thende upped their attack and saw shots on goal from Musonda,Khenyeza and Ramagalela, but the night just never belonged to the team, and nothing they fired at goal seemed to get past the keeper. In total for the game Lamontville Golden Arrows had 15 shots at the goal with 5 being on target, and statistically created more opportunities than the hosts, however, the finishing denied them tonight, and at the end of the day, that’s what gives results.
The team has a lengthy rest until the 12thSeptember when they take on Mamelodi Sundowns at Chatsworth Stadium. This time is sure to be used to the full advantage by Coach Letsoaka, who will be calling on the team to consolidate and produce results against ‘Downs.
