Abafana Bes’thende have done well to hold off a determined Free State stars side and win their second game on the run with a goal from Gabadinho Mhango in the 27th minute of the game.

The second half was dominated in the midfield by the visitors, but a determined Golden Arrows side did well to counter the Free State Stars attacks and make good use of their possession to play themselves into goal scoring positions that had Stars at sixes and sevens on most occasions.

The goal came of such a movement. Free State Stars were on the attack, Mahachi managed to take possession against the flow of play and advanced up the far side of the field. He fed Mhango in the box with a great ball and finding himself practically unmarked, controlled the ball before taking his shot at goal, beating the keeper

Free State Stars attacked hard, and close to the end of the first half looked threatening as they fought to find the equalizer.

The second half was a fierce battle. Free State Stars continued their attacking play, but Lamontville Golden Arrows consolidated and defended their goals and lead well, choosing wisely when to advance and attack. This created a number of opportunities for them to put another in the net. Mhango had a fantastic volley shot after being supplied by Mahachi, Dube had a shot from the right that hit the upright and Shitolo had an opportunity that was missed.

Free State Stars showed determination though, and had a number of opportunities themselves. Another good day at the office from Mbaeva denied them though, as well as a solid performance from the Lamontville Golden Arrows defenders.

The team have a week’s break until they face Chippa United at Buffalo City Stadium next Saturday 07 May at 15h00.
