Lamontville Golden Arrows have played a goalless draw with Bloemfontein Celtic in the afternoons only PSL fixture this weekend.
Abafana Bes’thende dominated the first half of the game, having 14 shots at goal compared to Bloemfontein Celtics 3, with 7 being on target, but great defending from both sides as well as handy work in the goals from Celtics Tignyemb ensured that the teams went into the break with no score at all.
Lamontville Golden Arrows had solid defence at the back, with Captain Mathiane clearing dangerous ball away and Mngwengwe doing his bit to deny the visitors when they came on the attack.
Hotto, Shitolo and Nkanyiso Cele fed some great ball up the field, and this allowed Khenyeza, Fikizolo and Mahachi to have shots at goal.
The play set a precedent for the second half, and the stadium was electric with the anticipation of the second half during the break.
Bloemfontein Celtic came out on the attack, and in the first 10 minutes of the second stanza has increased their attacks on goal. but a number of great saves from Mbaeva meant that the visitors would have to carry on trying to find their mark against a confident home side.
Abafana Bes’thendes first shot in the half came from Shitolo who was in the box and Sikhakhane crossed the ball to him. However his shot was straight into the keepers hands. Both teams attacked relentlessly, looking for a breakthrough in the stale mate that had formed.
Both teams fought hard to make a breakthrough and find the back of the net, but neither managed to accomplish this in the game. It was a well fought and exciting match from both sides with some great display of of football, from goal keeping to attack.
