Lamontville Golden Arrows have defeated Supersport United 2-1 in their Absa Premiership meeting tonight at Lucas Moripe Stadium.
The game was an eventful one with Coach Letsoaka playing strong up front from the start with Khenyeza, Fikizolo and Mahachi. This paid off early on in the first half, and after attacking play saw our players get up to the last 3rdof the field, a set piece allowed Mathiane to open the scoring for Abafana Bes’thende with a right footed shot. Golden Arrows kept the pressure on the home side, with Hotto getting into the last 3rd but not being able to score and the general play leaning on a heavy attack strategy from the team. They managed a breakthrough just before the half time whistle when Mahachi scored for a second time to go into the break with a 2 nil lead over the host side.
The work that had been put in during the break on the execution of passes in the last 3rd and making sure of the final pass seemed to have paid off for Serame Letsoaka and his men during the course of the first half of the game.
Supersport United consolidated during the break, and bought the game back to Lamontville Golden Arrows in the second 45 minutes of the game. They dominated in possession of the ball but were unable to break the score line until the 65th minute when a relentless Nkhatha eventually managed to beat on form Mbaeva to pull one goal back for the home team. Golden Arrows had their chances in the half to score again from Fikizolo and Ramagalela, but Williams denied both opportunities.
The two sides face each other again on Saturday when they play in the Last8 stage of the Telkom Knockout Competition, and it will definitely be a win-it-all situation from both sides.
