Abafana Bes’thende were defeated 3-1 in their Last 8 Telkom Knockout game against Supersport United at Peter Mokaba Stadium tonight.

A single goal from Nkhatha in the 32ndminute, a penalty and goal in the 86th, sealed the game for Supersport to see them advance to the Semi Finals of the competition.

The first half stated off relatively calmly, with both sides getting a feel for the pitch, but after 7 minutes the hosts opened up a barrage of attack against the visitors.

They dominated possession in the first 40minutes and after a number of attempts that were denied by some brilliant keeping from Mbaeva finally got a breakthrough off the boot of Nkhatha off a cross from Phala.

This gave the hosts an advantage going into the break but Lamontville Golden Arrows retuned to the field with determination to pull one back.

On the return, Coach Letsoaka had to replace Mathiane with Katjiukua for an injury and later brought Hotto on as a replacement for Chapman. The changes made an impact, with Hotto delivering a great cross from a corner however, Supersport United defence held tight.

Mahachi, Khenyeza and Sikhakhane all attacked the Supersport United goals, but they too could not find the breakthrough that they were looking for.

Supersport then added 2 goals to their score after Brockie got both a penalty and then a goal within a minute to give the hosts a formidable lead.

It was only 89 minutes in that Katjiukua managed to pull one back after controlling the ball well in the box, turning and playing a right footed shot that found the back of the net.

Abafana Bes’thende played a better game in the second half but were just not able to get close to looking dangerous again.

The side will be taking the time to look at where they can improve as they travel to Orlando Stadium on Wednesday night to take on Pirates in a mid-week league fixture.
