Abafana Bes’thende have lost a tough battle against Mamelodi Sundowns tonight at Loftus Stadium by 3 goals to nil.

The first half belonged to Sundowns. They dominated possession and kept pressure on us in the last 3rd. Often using soft passes they gradually pushed up until they were in a position to take a shot and did so from both sides of the park. They eventually got their goal when Kekana slotted the ball into the nets from a corner on the left hand side of the field. We used our ball well though and although only enjoying one direct shot at goal, kept Mamelodi Sundowns on their toes at the back.

After returning to the pitch for the second 45, Masandwana had another breakthrough as Vilikazi scored the second goal for the home side. We were unlucky to have this scored and it dampened the spirit of the team for a while. We fought back though and created more opprtunities in the second half. Coach Larsen bought on Barrios, hoping to increase our shot rate, and this was marginally successful but we just never had clean shots at goal.

Zwane got the third goal for the home side and this was fate accomplished. Although the boys fought hard we could just not come back in the last 20 minutes of the game.

All focus will need to now go on next week and our encounter with Polokwane City to ensure that we can pick up some more points.
