Abafana Bes’thende have broken their 7 game dry spell with a 2-1 win over Bloemfontein Celtic at Prncess Magogo Stadium this afternoon.
The team pulled together really well today and created a number of scoring opportunities throughout the whole first half that should have seen them in the lead going into the break.
Mahachi had a great opportunity in the 14th minute but messed up the chance after being in a one-on-one situation with the keeper.
The game went into the break at 0-0, with both sides unhappy with their finishing in the last 3rd.
Returning after the break, Arrows increased their work rate and began creating better opportunities. Their determination payed off after being awarded a penalty in the 58th minute after Mahachi again was played into the box and was bought down. Nkanyiso Cele stepped up and put the ball in the bottom right hand corner to make it 1-0 from the penalty spot.
Minutes later Bloemfontein Celtic managed to equalise from a corner, with Maruping finding the back of the net from close range.
Determined for the win, we replied and Mutizwa scored the second to regain the lead in the game. Celtic bought the game to us, and were playing an attacking game looking to equalise, but some great defending and brilliant keeping from Gumede denied them the opportunity.
A well fought for and deserved 3 points for the work put out by the team this afternoon.
We have another opportunity to gain some home ground points next Saturday as we face Free State Stars at Princess Magogo Stadium, 15h30 kick off again.
