BIDVEST WITS WIN 4 - 1 31.10.2010
Lamontville Golden Arrows have succumbed to a 4-1 defeat in their Absa Premiership clash against Bidvest Wits at the Chatsworth Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Tefu Mashamaite, Nyiko Tshabangu, Sifiso Myeni and Avive Langwe gave the visitors the three points, while Arrows' reply came via an own goal from Wits' Brad Phillips.
The scoreline does not reflect the play as Arrows were dominant for periods of the match, but poor concentration at the back was what ultimately let them down.
The visitors took an early lead on nine minutes when Mashamaite headed home Sipho Mngomezulu's set-piece, leaving home goalkeeper Thulasizwe Khuzwayo with no chance.
It was 2-0 ten minutes before the break when Sifiso Vilakazi's shot was only parried by Khuzwayo and Tshabangu reacted quickest to knock home the rebound.
The home side were given a lifeline when Siyabonga Sangweni's long free-kick was flicked on by Siphesihle Nzimande, hit the unfortunate Phillips in the head and beat Darren Keet in the Wits goal.
But any thoughts of a comeback were gone when the visitors scored their third via the penalty-spot as Musa Bilankulu upended Myeni in the area and the latter picked himself up to fire home an unstoppable spot-kick.
And Wits added a fourth late on when youngster Langwe headed home from 35-yards as he beat Khuzwayo to the ball as they both chased a long-ball.
Despite the result, Arrows remain sixth in the Absa Premiership table and their next fixture is away to struggling Moroka Swallows on November 10.
