GOLDEN ARROWS V PIRATES MATCH PREVIEW 19.01.2011
Date: 19 January 2011 Kick-off: 19h30 Venue: Chatsworth Stadium
Match Info
Golden Arrows will look to cut short Orlando Pirates’ recent unbeaten run in the Absa Premiership when the teams meet at the Chatsworth Stadium on Wednesday evening, kick-off at 19h30.
Arrows won the Durban Derby on Sunday afternoon, defeating AmaZulu 2-1 away from home. The result broke a five-game winless streak for the KwaZulu-Natal team.
Abafana Bes’thende are placed seventh on the log heading into the midweek fixtures, having claimed 22 points from their 14 matches.
Pirates missed out on the chance to go second on the log when they were held to a goalless draw at home by Santos on Saturday evening. The result did, however, extend their unbeaten run to six games.
The Buccaneers are placed in fourth heading into the midweek fixtures, four points adrift of leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.
In head-to-head stats, Arrows and Pirates have met 20 times in the league since 2000/01.
Bucs have won eight games, twice as many as Abafana Bes’thende, while a further eight have ended in draws. Arrows’ home record in this fixture reads: P10 W3 D4 L3.
Last season, the corresponding fixture ended in a goalless draw. The return game in Gauteng saw Pirates claim a 1-0 win. The Soweto side defeated Arrows 1-0 in Durban in a Telkom Knockout game earlier this season.
