FREE STATE STARS DEFEAT ARROWS 1 - 0 05.02.2011
Lamontville Golden Arrows have suffered a third defeat in a row after their 1-0 reversal at the hands of Free State Stars in an Absa Premiership encounter at Goble Park on Saturday afternoon.

Abafana Bes'thende will count themselves unlucky to have come away with no points from a game in which they had chances, but were denied by some excellent goalkeeping and, on one occasion, the crossbar.

Collins Mbesuma created an early opportunity for Nhlanhla Sithole, but he put his shot off target, while at the other end Thulasizwe Khuzwayo made a fine save to keep the Stars attackers at bay.

The home side were seeing most of the ball in the early stages, but were unable to create much with it as the Abafana Bes'thende defence stood firm.

Joseph Musonda had a shot for the visitors but it was deflected off-target, and at the other end Kingston Nkhatha missed a great opportunity for Ea Lla Koto.

Sithole and Siyabona Nkosi had further chances for Golden Arrows that came to nothing, but again it was Stars who came closest, with Musa Bilankulu clearing the danger with Khuzwayo beaten.

The breakthrough came for Stars in first half injury-time as the team engineered a counter-attack and Boitumelo Sekgobela finished with aplomb.

Mzuvukile Tom had an early chance in the second half that missed, as did Bryce Moon, who might have done better with his opportunity, but shot straight at the goalkeeper.

Golden Arrows were desperately unlucky not to get back onto level terms when Thanduyise Khuboni struck the crossbar with a header, and they created some more half-chances after that, but could not find a way to goal.

The team will now look forward to their next encounter, a home match with Bloemfontein Celtic on Saturday, February 12.
