SUPERSPORT UNITED TAKE THE GAME 2 -1 18.02.2012
Lamontville Golden Arrows have suffered a 2-1 home defeat at the hands of SuperSport United in their Absa Premiership clash at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Saturday night. Katlego Mashego netted his second goal in two games for the home side, but was later sent-off, while Morgan Gould and Ashley Hartog got the goals for the visitors.
Both teams finished the game with 10 men when Sameehg Doutie was also sent to the stands in a keenly contested match in rainy conditions. SuperSport were ahead inside seven minutes as Doutie’s corner was headed home by Gould. It was a fantastic effort that left debutant goalkeeper Andre Petim with no chance.
Abafana Bes’thende were back level midway through the half though when Elrio van Heerden collected the ball in midfield and put Mashego through on goal, with the Bafana Bafana striker providing a cool finish past Ronwen Williams.
Thamsanqa Gabuza missed a superb chance when he put a header wide on 37 minutes with Williams left flat-footed. Mashego produced a stunning volley on the hour-mark that was headed for the top-corner, before Williams stuck out a hand to deflect the ball to safety.
And just minutes later the visitors were back in front. Doutie’s cross from the right was met with his head by Hartog, whose header crept just inside the post. Doutie received his marching orders with 10 minutes remaining when he collected a second yellow card and the visitors had to see out the remainder of the match with 10 men. Bongi Ntuli came on for Clifford Ngobeni with seven minutes left on the clock, before Mashego received his second yellow card two minutes later to even up the numbers on the pitch.
