It was a spectacular Derby display at Princess Magogo Stadium this afternoon as we beat Amazulu 4-1 to take full points.
The game was a tense affair with both sides making good use of counter plays to push into the last third and try to break the last line of defense to score. We opened up the scoring with some great interplay from the guys. Lamola was first to find the back of the net in the 19th minute and this was made possible with good attacking play that put Pule under pressure.
Our neighbours fought back and secured an equaliser before the half time from some determined play. Akoriko got a header in on the far post off a corner just minutes after Gumede had a brilliant save to deny Amazulu.
After the break, Amazulu showed a slight domination in play until Magubane had a great play taking the ball wide and playing into the middle, putting Pule under pressure again and scoring from his move.
Gumede then denied Amazulu in the 77th minute. The shot was tipped over the bar and could have been the equaliser for Amazulu.
We held strong and were lucky when Amazulu played from a corner, had a shot that hit the cross bar, then the rebound shot hit the upright denying them the goal.
We countered well after that and in the 5 minutes of referee optional time, found the back of the net as Mahachi had a well timed run and got easily around Pule and made it 3-1.
Just a minute after, another counter play from Lamola up the left side of the field saw him make an amazing run from our half way line, break the defence, play in and supply Mutizwa who made sure and took the score to 4 against the opposition.
The win will give the team great confidence as they prepare to travel again as we go to Royal Bafokeng Stadium to take on Platinum Stars on Wednesday 20th at 19h30.
