GOLDEN ARROWS VS PLATINUM STARS | DISKI 2015/16

Our Diski team have suffered a 3-0 loss to Platinum Stars at King Zwelithini Stadium this afternoon.

Play started at a blistering pace at a hot King Zwelithini Stadium with Golden Arrows looking to open the scoring early on in the game. Some great plays between Sibiya, Hlongwane, S.Parusnath and captain Sibeko saw the home team playing up into the oppositions last third looking for scoring opportunities. They did well and kept Platinum Stars on the back foot causing them to create mistakes. This resulted in a penalty in the 15th minute after an unfair challenge in the box. Sibeko placed the ball, took a couple of steps up and somehow managed to push the ball over the bar.

This set the team back, and only 6 minutes later, Platinum Stars countered in a quick play that saw them open their account. The Diski Boys were rattled and never really got back into the half, they created a number of opportunities, but could just not finish off, while Platinum Stars on the other hand, had gained confidence and attacked when in possession.

The second stanza did not start well for the home side either, with Platinum Stars finding their second just 3 minutes into the half. Golden Arrows could just not find their rhythm after this, and after managing to get into the opponents last third on a number of occasions, could just not find that finishing touch to give them some score. Abafana Bes’thende did not give up though, they threw everything at their opponents to try and get one back, but nothing they did could help get the ball into the back of the net, they were in their opponents half majority of the second half, but could not get that goal.

Platinum Stars went on to get their third after gaining possession off a rebound in the midfield, Lamontville Golden Arrows defenders were all up field and Goss was 1-on-1 with their player, who snuck the ball past him and found the back of the net.

The team never gave up, trying until the last minutes to score, but it was just not their day.

They will need to consolidate this week and prepare for their next encounter against Tuks next weekend Sunday, again at King Zwelithini Stadium.
