Competition: Absa Premiership

A storming second half performance by Moroka Swallows saw them sweeping aside Golden Arrows in a 3-1 victory at the Chatsworth Stadium on Saturday night.
All four goals came in the second half, with Arrows scoring first before the Birds stormed back with three goals in 30 minutes.
It would be unfair to say that this was a match which Swallows completely dominated, but on the night, Arrows could just not get things right in front of goal, while for the Birds, Zambian marksman Collins Mbesuma provided a few glimpses of the finishing ability that made him such a hit at Chiefs a few seasons back.
Swallows had more of the play early on, looking to go the direct route with a shoot-on-sight policy, but unfortunately for the Birds, the couple of chances that came their way in the opening 15 minutes were blasted wide of goal by Shaun Haschick.
Abafana Bes’thende however posed a more serious thereat on their opponents’ goal and came close to scoring in the 15th minute when Nqobizitha Mkhize’s left footed shot from a tight angle was cleared off the line by Swallows defender Ashraf Hendricks.
Eight minutes later a neat counter attack from the home side again nearly yielded the desired result when Richard Henyekane’s well struck 25-yard drive thudded into the cross bar.
The action then switched to the other end of the field and this time it was the Arrows goal post which felt the full force of a full-blooded shot as Kagiso Denge’s thunderous effort touched a defender and then hammered against the crossbar.
More chances followed as Henyekane’s free kick was tipped over by Greg Etafia before Denge sent a free header wide of the target.
Etafia was again called into action just before the break, taking two attempts to gather Nhlanhla Zothwane’s shot. He ended up in his own net in the process, but a goal was not given as the Nigerian keeper was ruled to have been fouled by Vusimuzi Vilakazi.
All the game needed was a goal and Arrows duly obliged just a minutes after the break when Henyekane pounced inside the box to slam home a left footed effort past a helpless Etafia, whose attempted goal kick had cannoned into referee Peter Mabuza’s head and fallen kindly for the Arrows striker.
But within three minutes the visiting side drew level when Morgan Shivambu played Mbesuma through on goal, who beat Arrows keeper Thulasizwe Khuzwayo with a low shot at the near post.
The game then went into somewhat of a lull as neither side managed to make things happen up front.
That is until former AmaKhosi marksman Mbesuma showed a glimpse of his old finishing prowess when he put the ball through Khuzwayo’s legs and into the back of the net to put Swallows ahead in the 77th minute.
It took Swallows just four minutes to add to their tally as David Radebe’s volley struck Arrows defender Siyabonga Sangweni and then into goal.
The only damper on a good night for the Soweto side came a coupler of minutes from time when defender Keegan Ritchie was sent off for a second bookable offence.
